Deus ex machina 

Mixed choir, glockenspiel, vibraphone, harp, piano. Duration: 7m45s. Composed in 1986. Created in 1987 by the choir of the "Belgische Radio en Televisie", Bart Quartier, Gert François, Marta Szabo and myself, conducted by Peter Serpenti. Commissioned by the "Belgische Radio en Televisie". Unpublished.

The expression "deus ex machina" is to be regarded both in the literal sense and in its usual meaning. The choir symbolizes a kind of polymorphous god, humanizing and saving the disembodied existences of the machines / music instruments. The work is simple and clear in its general structure, but also extremely detailed and refined in notation.
 


Fleurs du Mal - 1

Violin, piano. Duration: 7m. Composed in 1988. Imposed work of the International Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in 1989. Published by Alain Van Kerckhoven, Louvain-la-Neuve - 1989 - D/1989/5307/1. Dedication: "A elles…".

Initially I wanted to compose a cycle of five short pieces for violin and piano in a dense, polymodal language. Only two of them have been written yet, Peyote and Belladonna, under the title of Fleurs du Mal - 1. Who knows, someday ...
